Queen Annes County's Recommendations for Revolutionary War Leaders in Maryland, 1776
At least one name, Gideon Emory, is listed on a Caroline County tax assessment taken later on in the war. This recommendation was written less than two years after Caroline County was founded from land previously belonging to Queen Annes, so it is likely that the areas and people overlapped. Can be found at the Maryland State Archives in Box 9 of Maryland State Revolutionary Papers.
Receipt for Payment to a Revolutionary War Soldier from the Maryland Line, May 1781
The patriot was paid thirty dollars for his service. The document can be found at the Maryland State Archives in Maryland State Revolutionary Papers, Box 9.
Two Records of Cargo Shipment During the American Revolution, May 1776 and August 1776
These two documents are important to the story of the Revolution for many reasons. Firstly, the lack of pre-printed material in the August record versus May of 1776 showcases the loss of organized and formal business in the chaos of war. Second, the "danger of the seas only excepted" as a reason for goods to arrive damaged changes to "the danger of the seas or the enemy only excepted" in the second, which indicates that the British and/or loyalists were destroying cargo ships in/near Maryland. The first shipment in May of 1776 is bound for the Port of Maryland and is to be delivered to the Committee of Safety, which was essentially the Patriot government, and included gun powder and muskets, among other things pertinent to an upcoming war. Keep in mind this is a couple of months prior to the signing of the Declaration of Independence- this is evidence that preparations for a Revolution came long beforehand. Documents can be found at the Maryland State Archives, Maryland State Revolutionary Papers, Box 9.
